Why the Name Change? Catelynn Takes Us Inside Vaeda's Delivery

One happy family! Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra have had their fair share of ups and downs through the years, but ever since welcoming baby Vaeda Luma on February 23, they couldn’t be happier.

“She’s such a good baby – very chill and easy going … so far,” Lowell, 27, tells Us Weekly in a new exclusive interview, adding that her daughter Nova, 4, “loves being a big sister and loves ‘her baby.’”

Baltierra, 27, and Lowell were not trying for another child, they told Us exclusively in September 2018. However, they were still extremely excited. “This baby is our rainbow after the storm,” she said, referring to her miscarriage in 2017. “We were using protection and everything. This baby just wanted to be here. It was very unexpected.”

The Teen Mom OG stars were worried about Lowell’s health after the miscarriage, but it was a smooth pregnancy, Baltierra revealed on the “Watch With Us” podcast in December 2018. Plus, Lowell was “not anxious, not depressed” at all during her pregnancy, but instead, “in a good mental state with this one,” she said.

The reality star suffered from postpartum depression after having Novalee in 2015 and struggled with anxiety after placing her first daughter, Carly, now 9, for an open adoption in 2009. The couple remain actively involved in Carly’s life.

Delivery Details

Lowell’s water actually didn’t break, but she began having contractions at 5 a.m. “We got everything in the car and woke Nova up at about 6:30 and headed for the hospital. It took us about 25 minutes to get there,” she told Us. “Once at the hospital, I was in labor for 2 and a half hours. I’m honestly blessed because I have very easy and fast labors! So every one of them have been very similar.”

Mini Freak-Out

“The hardest part was almost not getting an epidural! I almost didn’t have a chance to get one and that freaked me out,” Lowell added. “The easiest was the pushing itself – only two times and she was out!”

Growing Family

Now that they have a new house and are in a good place, the high school sweethearts are ready for another baby … and soon! “We want more children,” she told Us. “We really want to try for a boy, but we are going to wait until Vaeda is a little older – like six months to a year.”

My Girl

During a December episode of Teen Mom OG, the couple revealed they were planning to name their daughter Tezlee. They ultimately went with Vaeda Luma instead. “Every time someone would say Tezlee, we would cringe! It just wasn’t sitting with us like it did at first,” she revealed. “Tyler told me about the name Vaeda and I fell in love with it! It’s from the movie My Girl, which is a movie that Tyler showed me years ago.”

Proud Papa

The excited father of three shared a pic of his family on Instagram, calling the group “my inspiration for everything.” He added: “I love my family so much & there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for all of my girls! After this past year with our miscarriage, Cate’s mental health struggle, my dad & sister’s recovery, & my own mental health journey…I thought this pregnancy couldn’t have come at a more emotionally sensitive time for us. But life isn’t about convenient timing & destiny works in mysterious ways. I’m just so blessed that Vaeda’s destiny was to be right here in her mother’s arms, next to her big sister, who’s wrapped in her daddy’s arms…it’s a feeling that’s unexplainable.”

While Lowell was pregnant, the former 16 & Pregnant stars decided to begin couples’ therapy and live apart – something they called “self-reflection time” rather than a separation.

When arriving home, Baltierra shared a photo of Vaeda sleeping next to their dog. “Mommy & Daddy love you so much & can’t wait to watch you grow with love in this crazy family of ours,” he wrote on Instagram.
